About

Tanager began as an idea sparked during a quiet afternoon of birdwatching from a hammock in my backyard.

Birds have long been tied to my memories, and after moving to an acre in the woods, I rediscovered a part of my past I had forgotten. As a child, I used to pore over bird identification pocket guides, captivated by the goldfinches and bluebirds that visited my parent's backyard. I would sit on my grandmother's couch, as close to her window hummingbird feeder as possible, waiting for the thrill of a ruby-throated hummingbird appearing in front of me. I checked on mourning dove nests on the windowsill of my childhood bedroom window, and later, my college bedroom. I watched murmurations drift across the sky during sunset drives home from work. I even set up my first bird feeder on the patio of my top-floor apartment, where I sat on the floor with my cat, watching the house finches that visited and listening to their songs.

Birdwatching became my escape from a corporate nine-to-five life. I was burnt out, a self taught product designer with a fine arts degree longing to reconnect with making things by hand and creating art that truly resonated with me. Tanager emerged as the first idea that both scared and excited me, because it offered a way to blend so many things I care about. It started as random notes on my phone, evolved into doodles and design plans, and gradually became tangible projects, refined until I felt ready to share them with the world. Nine months after that afternoon in the hammock, I left my corporate job behind.

Tanager is truly my passion project. I’m thrilled to create art every day, connect with fellow bird lovers, and meet so many incredible people at markets who share in this joy. I hope you love it as much as I do.
